“The TSATA, led by Executive Director Spanky
Stephens, was instrumental in lobbying, advocating
and supporting two major pieces of legislation passed
during the 2007-2008 legislative session.”
Thank you to the 2009 BOC
Athletic Trainer Regulatory
The next Athletic Trainer Regulatory Conference
is scheduled for July 8-9, 2011, in Omaha,
Nebraska at the downtown Omaha Doubletree.
The BOC hopes to attract additional conference
participants by providing leadership
opportunities, continuing to invite leaders from
other healthcare professions and providing
quality, provocative conference programs and
speakers. The BOC will post additional details
on the BOC website as they become available.
This was a very successful year for initial Athletic Trainer regulation. Colorado, Maryland and Wyoming passed Athletic Trainer regulation this past legislative session. As a result, there are 47 states that have some form of Athletic Trainer regulation. This leaves California, Alaska and West Virginia as the only three states without Athletic Trainer regulation.
State Regulatory Updates
Number of states that have some form
of Athletic Trainer regulation:
The BOC exam is a requirement to obtain
regulation in 45 of the 47 states (Hawaii has
exemption and Texas has their own exam);
however, it is important to recognize that
passing the BOC exam is only a precursor to
Athletic Trainer practice. Compliance with state
regulatory requirements is mandatory and the
only avenue to legal practice. For specific details
regarding state regulation, please contact your
state regulatory agency.
