but again, administrative staff working closely with
the faculty developing the course has been critical
in identifying strategies that allow us to achieve that.
QDo you believe the Standards have increased the continuity, quality and outcomesofyoureducationprograms?
AUndoubtedly. The Standards for BOC Approved Providers incorporates best practices in education design and delivery
so embracing them has led to improved feedback
from participants. Specifically, having faculty identify
targeted and measureable learning objectives for the
programs. Then, use the appropriate assessment
method to ascertain whether the participants had
achieved the stated objectives, has led to positive
feedback. Participants are reporting that they feel
more competent in the performance of psychomotor
skills and have a better understanding of how to
apply the clinical knowledge they have acquired.

attendees our programs serve, rather than focusing
purely on the attendee themselves. This sounds
like an oxymoron in a learner-centered model of
education, but the accumulation of knowledge and
technical skill by the AT isn’t the primary end goal.
It is the ability of the AT to take that knowledge and
skill and incorporate it in to their practice to optimize
their clients’ outcomes. We’ve found that if we focus
on what’s in the best interest of the patient and the
quality of the learning program, the experience of
the participant almost takes care of itself.
From a practical perspective, constant and open
communication is the key element. BOC has
provided fantastic resources to guide program
development and administration and these
have become our doctrine. If we are unsure on
interpretation of a point, we know that help is only
an email or phone call away and Jessica has been
extremely supportive. Communication with faculty
regarding expectations and standards has also been
critical. Finally, delivery of effective programming,
which is all that compliance with Standards for BOC
Approved Providers demands, is not something
you can do in your spare time. Having dedicated
resources whose primary function is the provision
of education and adherence to the standards this
demands is ultimately key to the success of any
