New Cert Maintenance Requirements
ICATION
UPDATE
25 Years
FOLLOW US:
ATs, take note: Updates to the BOC’s
Certification Maintenance Requirements
mean that this reporting period will look a bit
different from the last. These updates
include a shorter reporting
period with fewer CEUs
due, the addition of
an Evidence Based
Practice (EBP)
CE category and
new maximums for
categories.
What hasn’t changed?
Compliance with the BOC
Standards of Professional
Practice, emergency cardiac care (ECC),
maintenance fees and CE are still required.
As you may know, the BOC has recently
shifted to a two-year reporting period. The
current reporting period ends December 31,
2015. ATs initially certified in the even years
will have their number of CEUs prorated for
their first certification maintenance period.
Previously, ATs were on a staggered three-year reporting period, with 75 CEUs due at
the end of each period.
Another significant update is that ATs must
complete a minimum number of CEUs in the
new EBP category. EBP helps ATs infuse
the best new evidence into clinical
decision-making, with the
goal of improving patient
outcomes (see story on
Page 8).
CE requirements for
the EBP category are
as follows:
•;ATs certified
before 2014 must
complete 50 CEUs,
including at least 10 EBP CEUs
•;ATs certified in 2014 must complete
25 CEUs, including at least five EBP
CEUs
The next update is the slight modification of
the CE classification system. There are now
two levels of CE, with different categories in
each level.
Level I categories are for competence
activities and programs that require a level
of BOC approval. Level II categories are
